In the first couple chapters of Alison Isenberg’s Downtown America nothing really surprised me. When I took Historic Preservation 101 my freshman year, many of the things I learned in that class is what Isenberg touched about in the first half of the book. The one things that surprised me a little bit is when Isenberg talked about the beautification of downtown areas by women. This included adding street light, trash can, and sidewalk campaigns. But when it comes to the actually professional life of downtown, that seemed normal to me, men are not worried about aesthetically pleasing areas, but more scientific aspect that goes into professional development to make an area prosper.
