One of the things I found interesting in reading the second half of Isenberg was the section entitled “The Promise of Resurrection”. I found this part interesting because the first sentence says that officials couldn’t tell the difference between riot destruction and decay of buildings because of urban renewal programs. This section then goes on to explain that because of all the fighting, downtowns were in jeopardy. I find this interesting because anywhere you go, the downtown area is one of the most prosperous areas in a city, and in this case downtown areas were being relocated and some didn’t survive. And although there were many riots taking place, this helped to spark reinvestment in downtown areas, and also helped to show the poverty levels and how bad they had become.
