Purchasing Power Reflection

While this book was very interesting and thought provoking. I kept wondering how people let this random person follow their kids around. In the beginning she kind of explains what her experiment is, but i’m still confused as to how people are ok with her walking around studying them and then even being a substitute teacher at one point. Is she even qualified to do so? On page 13. it says “the not so subtle message often seems to be that if only those people would get themselves on track (by wanting the right things, dressing appropriately, buying the right foods), they too could be middle class” I find this to be blatant example of white privilege and the bootstrap myth. People are born with certain advantages that causes minorities to be at a disadvantage and it is not always possible to just try harder and you’ll have a better life.
